“How Healing Works with Dr. Wayne Jonas”
End of Season 1
Dr. Wayne Jonas:
Hello, Dr. Wayne Jonas here. I want to take a moment to thank you for listening to season 1 of How Healing Works. I enjoyed talking with other clinicians who are passionate about whole person care and sharing how their patients have responded to this type of care.
This past season we heard from:
- Dr. Cortney Crespo on how weight inclusive care IS whole person care by focusing on what matters to the patient, listening to what the patient values, and building relationships that allow for shared decision making about their health.
- Do you remember Dr. Gladys McGarey’s secret to living medicine? As a centenarian, she reminds us that love is the foundation of life and healing. When we carry love into any situation, it activates our compassion and understanding and we see each patient as WHOLE and holy.
- Have you noticed that your patients are ready to improve their health behaviors, but they are unsure where to start? Dr. Kavitha Reddy shared multiple pathways to healing that help patients get motivated to start. By asking your patient what matters to them in life, you can help guide them on the path that is the best fit for them and ultimately leads to improved health.
Each of my guests this season is working to move the dial so that whole person care is commonplace. Listening to others’ experiences allows us to reflect on our own practice and find ways to incorporate a whole person approach with our patients and health care teams and ourselves.
As we move into season 2 of How Healing Works, I’m excited to introduce you to my co-host, Dr. Alyssa McManamon. Dr. McManamon is a triple board-certified clinician-educator and hematologist-oncologist. Together we will dig deeper into whole person care and how it is applied in cancer care and invite guests to share their experiences. Stay tuned for season 2 out in early spring of 2024!
Here’s wishing you a wonderful holiday season as we move into the new year. Be well!
